The Classic Cowl

Hello My Yarn Friends!

I have been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a line of beginner friendly knitting patterns. I hope is you find joy in making them; I truly loved designing them for you.


I love all types of knitting from simple stitches to complex advanced stitches; it is my happy place. I created this pattern to bring joy to the maker using a classic stitch, that has a rhythm of knits and purls, while creating a luxurious drape.


The Classic Cowl is the perfect simple knit it works up quickly with bulky weight yarn and large needles. Then seamed together creating a timeless accessory that will work go with everything, you might love it so much you will want to make another.


Supply List

  • Bulky weight yarn; 185 yards/170 m; 3.5 oz/100g

  • US11/8mm knitting needles

  • Tapestry needle



Knitting Abbreviations

  • BO - Bind Off

  • CO - Cast On

  • K - knit

  • P - purl

  • Rep - repeat

  • RS - Right Side

  • sl1 - slip 1 stitch with yarn in back

  • sl1 wyif - slip 1 stitch with yarn in front

  • st(s) - stitch(es)

  • WS - Wrong Side


Skill Level: Beginner

Finished Size: 28”/71cm circumference x 15”/38cm tall

Gauge: 14 sts x 20 rows = 4”/10cm square in 1x1 rib.


Knitter’s Notes


This cowl is worked flat than seamed together.

The first stitch is slipped in every row, which creates a clean edge.



Pattern


CO 61 sts in preferred method.


Rnd 1 (WS): Sl1 wyif, (k1, p1) rep to end.

Rnd 2 (RS): Sl1, (p1, k1) rep to end.


Rep Rnd 1 and 2 until you reach 28”/71cm or desired circumference.


Finishing

Bind off in pattern.

Seam together CO and BO edges.

Weave in ends.

Steam or wet block cowl to measurements.
